Facing Uncertainty and Fostering Hope

As the first light of dawn crept through the window, Diego quietly slipped out of bed, careful not to wake his family. The weight of responsibility pressed heavily on his shoulders, yet he found himself praying for strength and wisdom to face the uncertainty ahead. He knew that despite the setbacks, his calling remained the same, and he clung to hope that God would provide a way forward. After learning from his home church that their regular financial support would be discontinued, Diego was deeply concerned about his ability to provide for his family. The economic recession and rising unemployment had significantly affected his friends, family members, and congregation, all of whom had contributed to his support network. Coupled with ongoing political instability, these factors made it increasingly difficult for his supporters to meet their own financial obligations. Additionally, several church members who had been instrumental in supporting him and Alicia during their transition to missionary work have since relocated, resulting in a gap in his support team that has yet to be filled.

Diego’s thoughts then turned to the house fellowships they had recently formed which had grown rapidly in this new community where he relocated his family. Hours of prayer walking in the streets, along with inviting their neighbors into their home, gave him and his family countless opportunities to share their story of how Jesus had changed their lives. The bible study that began in one of their friend’s homes soon attracted others, and these meetings quickly multiplied into five separate groups. Many individuals were placing their faith in Jesus and choosing baptism, gradually fulfilling Diego and Alicia’s vision of fostering a movement of believers who disciple others within this people group. Seeing these wonderful results filled their hearts with joy, yet they faced anxiety due to the uncertainty of being able to continue on with limited financial support. It was difficult to raise a support team when he and Alica were in their own country. How would they be able to find others to replace the financial partners they had lost?

Global South missionaries, like Diego and Alicia, often struggle to build dependable, financial support teams due to economic and political instability. Other Global South missionaries come from areas where there are simply very few believers and no established church from whom they can find dependable, financial supporters. Despite these obstacles, their cultural and linguistic ties position them well to reach unreached people groups.

Disciple Makers for the Nations seeks to identify Global South missionaries like Diego and Alicia who are faithful gospel messengers living and serving among unreached peoples. We do this by receiving referrals from leaders who train missionaries and maintain contact with them, providing coaching and encouragement, helping these workers begin disciple making movements among the people God has called them to serve. Your support can help sustain these workers by addressing certain needs as they establish their own support networks. Partnering with us helps missionaries continue their work, making disciples among the least reached communities where the name of Jesus is only starting to be shared.
