The Power of Proximity

Ministry Team Led by Uziah

Uziah leads a dedicated team of Global South missionaries in a Central African nation, taking advantage of the opportunities God has provided to reach an unreached people group. Millions of Sudanese have fled their homeland due to war and civil unrest, facing significant trauma and harsh living conditions. Several members of Uziah’s team have personally experienced life as refugees, equipping them with valuable insight into the culture and language of those they serve. This deep understanding enables the team to establish meaningful connections with a people group that has very few believers.

Challenges in the Refugee Camp

The team travels on poor roads to reach a refugee camp that houses over 80,000 people, but their geographic proximity allows them to arrive within a few hours. The camp has become a major reception center, with more than 250 new arrivals every day. Since the onset of the conflict, it is estimated that up to 400,000 people have died and over 11 million have been displaced, creating the world’s worst displacement crisis. Resources in the camp are increasingly scarce, unable to meet the needs of the growing number of desperate people seeking shelter, food, and safety. The daily influx of new refugees from Sudan has disrupted UNHCR’s distribution of food and non-food items like roofing mats, blankets, and sleeping mats. As a result, many refugees are now suffering from hunger, sleeping on the bare ground, and facing exposure to rain due to a lack of proper shelter. Despite their own limited resources, Uziah’s team continues to offer small acts of aid and support, providing critical relief to those in greatest need.

Bringing Hope and Encouragement

The team’s ministry extends beyond meeting physical needs. Through empathetic listening, they provide encouragement and hope to those who have endured deep trauma and loss. By praying and sharing the message of the gospel, they have witnessed the Lord opening hearts. Recently, 38 individuals responded to their invitation to become followers of Jesus, and several team members have committed to discipling these new believers. In one instance, a woman who had been deeply involved in witchcraft was set free from demonic oppression after the team spent time fasting and praying for her.

Ongoing Commitment and Prayer Needs

Living in a nearby region allows the team of Global South missionaries to make regular trips to various camps and unreached areas, further aided by their geographic proximity. As near-culture gospel messengers, they are able to share hope and the good news of Jesus with many who might otherwise never hear of God’s love. The team is already planning another month-long visit to the camp, seeking to connect with thousands of refugees and offer both physical relief and the hope found in knowing Jesus. Uziah ended his ministry update with a heartfelt prayer request: “As my team and I prepare to go out to missionary work, we pray to Almighty God to provide our families with enough to cover their children’s school expenses, food, and rent, so that these needs do not distract us and divert our focus from ministry.”

Invitation to Support the Mission

It is a privilege and joy to receive reports like this from other Global South missionaries each week. They are able to go and make disciples in places we could never reach, but we can support their mission through financial assistance and prayer, asking God to bless their efforts. Would you consider joining us in this mission, supporting our brothers and sisters from Africa, Asia, and Latin America who are leading the way in spreading the gospel and making disciples among the remaining unreached peoples? All donations to DM4N are carefully stewarded by our board to sustain and encourage missionaries like Uziah and his team.
